S.V. Malaita Port Douglas Reef Snorkel Tours
Eco and Great Barrier Reef certification

Do we sail?

Yes we do turn the engine off at the first chance we get (winds prevailing). From June through to December the prevailing winds (S/E, 15-25 knots) in the Port Douglas area allow us to reach out to Low Isles and broad reach back to Port Douglas.

Do we cater for Vegetarians?

Yes, if you have any requirements or dietary intolerance please notify us when booking in.

Do we go out if the weather is bad?

The SV Malaita is a 22 tonne ocean going sailing boat. We moore in the quiet waters behind the island. In consideration of our guests we do not run in strong wind warnings (winds above 25 knots). However these
usually last only a day or two. We recommend checking with the office a day or two before your trip.
If we decide that conditions on the Great Barrier Reef are unsafe due to exceptionally strong winds or gales, we will cancel the tour. In this likelihood, Malaita Cruises will issue a full refund to any passengers.

Do we go out when its raining?

In the Douglas Shire the rain is mostly confined to the coastal ranges and usually does not make
it out to the reef. The SV Malaita has drop down sides to shelter us and the tropical rain is warm.

Are there any penalties if we cancel our trip?

If you cancel within 24 hours of your scheduled Great Barrier Reef snorkeling trip then a cancellation fee of 100% applies.

If the weather is bad on our date of travel can we change our trip to another day?

Of course, as long as you notify us of the change within 18 hours of your scheduled date of travel on the Great Barrier Reef.
